THE COLLECTOR’S NOTES

Good questions.
Clear answers.

The plates & printing

Are these genuine printing plates?

Yes. The collection uses genuine early-20th-century printing plates featuring John Tenniel’s original illustrations for Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.

What is a printing plate?

It is a metal printing surface that reproduces the fine detail of an engraved illustration. Ink and pressure transfer the image from the raised surface to paper.

Are these Tenniel’s original illustrations?

The plates carry John Tenniel’s original illustrations. They are production printing artifacts, not his original drawings.

Are these the original 1865 woodblocks?

No. These are early-20th-century printing plates, not the original 1865 woodblocks.

How is each print produced?

Each impression is individually printed from an inked printing plate onto Gmund Wedding cream paper using pressure. The exact production-method wording is awaiting final confirmation.

What makes each impression different?

Small variations in ink, pressure, paper texture, and handwork give each impression its own physical character.

Paper & presentation

What type of paper is used?

The supplied specification names Gmund Wedding cream paper. Its cream tone is paired with a gray textured presentation folder. Paper weight, composition, and final print measurements are still being confirmed.

What is included with my pre-order?

A hand-numbered, embossed impression on Gmund Wedding cream paper, a tri-fold presentation folder, and a Digital Certificate of Authenticity from Provenance Registry. Final measurements are being confirmed.

What is the presentation folder like?

The reference specifies a gray textured “Peace” tri-fold with a rectangular display window. The supplied drawing proposes 9.5 × 21 inches unfolded and a 4.3 × 5.375-inch window. The supplier has asked for measurement confirmation, so these are proposed dimensions, not final specifications.

Does the print arrive framed?

The proposed edition is presented in a folder. Framing is not currently offered; any future interior mockups will be illustrative only.

How should the print be handled or framed?

Handle the paper by its edges with clean, dry hands. Keep it away from moisture and direct sunlight. Ask a qualified framer about archival mounting and glazing. Final care instructions will accompany the edition.

Your edition & pre-order

Is every print numbered?

Each finished edition impression will be hand numbered. Edition quantities and the numbering policy are awaiting approval.

What does the Black Iris embossment mean?

It identifies the impression as part of the new edition produced and presented by Black Iris Art Gallery. It is not Tenniel’s signature.

How large is the edition?

The authorized edition size is awaiting confirmation. Purchasing will remain closed until it is verified.

Are artist proofs available?

Artist-proof quantities, markings, and availability have not been approved. None are currently offered.

When will my pre-order ship?

The collection’s estimated release is December 2026. This is a tentative project target, not a guaranteed ship date. Fulfillment timing, destinations, and shipping charges will be confirmed before pre-order purchasing opens.

What happens if my print is damaged?

A damage and replacement policy will be published before sales begin, including contact instructions and the information needed to assess a claim.

Are the prints sold individually? Can I buy all six?

Each print is sold individually. Buying one of all six earns a 10% discount. The six individual prices total $2,525; purchasing all six together is $2,272.50 before shipping and tax.
